The series of paintings that will feature in this forthcoming exhibition, are all watercolours which chart Jersey’s stunning coastline.
Ian has created this series of paintings in the open air, having stopped to paint on location, therefore the paintings take on a special quality that studio work can never have.
’It is significant and intentional that this exhibition is being held in a National Trust for Jersey property on one of the islands precious stretches of coastline. The specialness of the areas where the land meets the sea on our small island cannot be overemphasized. In one sense these areas are so rugged and seemingly indestructible but in another sense, it is precisely these areas that are the most vulnerable to change and to our intervention.
The National Trust for Jersey’s Coastline Campaign is designed to draw our attention to that, not just for a month or two but continuously and conspicuously, so that we are never allowed to take for granted the national treasure which surrounds us’
