Owls and Orchids - Wednesday 12th May 2010

JERSEY TOURISM - FREE EVENT 12/05/2010

Join botanist Joan Banks and bird expert Mike Stentiford MBE on a dusk walk from the National Trust’s wild orchid field at St Ouen to the nearby bird hides in search of rare flora and fauna.

Le Noir Pre, known locally as the Orchid Field, is home to the extremely rare Loose-Flowered (or Jersey) Orchid.  It is joined by three other orchid species to create an explosion of delicate pink and purple blooms.  Discover the vast, windswept beauty of St Ouen’s Bay with its unique eco-system and protected status.  Dune-grasslands, wetlands, reed beds and the open water of St Ouen’s Pond encourage fascinating flora and fauna to delight the explorer in its labyrinth of pathways - and who knows, you may even get a glimpse of an elusize barn owl.  Free of Charge.

Meeting Point: Le Noir Pre, Le Chemin de L’Ouziere, St Ouen

Limited roadside parking

Date: Wednesday 12th May 2010
