Why the Campaign?
With the plight of such important areas as Plémont in the
public eye, the National Trust for Jersey has launched the
Coastline Campaign, a public campaign to protect and
preserve areas of Jerseys coast for now and for the future.
The success of the Coastline Campaign will be dependent
on the support and generosity of the island community.

Despite improved planning control the coastline of Jersey is
still vulnerable to inappropriate and creeping development.
Areas of the south-east coast perfectly illustrate how the
natural beauty of Jersey can be irrevocably damaged. The
proposals for St Helier, Plémont and St Aubin are
reflective of the increasing pressures faced by our coastline.
Extended mineral extraction has led to the permanent loss
of valuable duneland in St Ouen and potentially threatens
our unique geological heritage along the north coast.
Poorly sited leisure facilities and noisy recreational activities
continue to erode the sense of tranquillity and remoteness
which once pervaded our coast, and now new telecoms
masts could result in further damage to our landscape.
To a large extent the ability of our coastline to sustain all
these pressures will depend on how it is protected and
managed. With government policy subject to economic
pressures, we believe that the National Trust for Jersey
has a crucial role to play in protecting your coastline.
