Le Col de la Rocque
including L’Île Agois

ST MARY,  Donated 1946 by Mr O Mourant

This extensive area of coastline was donated to the Trust by Mr Oliver Mourant in 1946 in memory of his wife. The area includes L’Île Agois, a small islet which is approximately 500 yards square and separated from the adjacent cliffs by a narrow gully. The islet was once inhabited both in the 9th century BC and 9th century AD but today is an oasis of tranquillity offering undisturbed nesting sites to birds of prey, gulls and other sea birds. In spring the seaward slope is carpeted with primroses and bluebells.
