La Cotte Battery
ST BRELADE, donated 1978 by Mrs H Dixon
La Cotte Battery enjoys magnificent views across St Brelades Bay and LOuaisné Common. The sites most prominent feature is the small building at the end of the headland which was originally constructed as a defensive battery and magazine in 1759. Below the small battery lies La Cotte de St Brelade, a cave which was once inhabited during the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods. The whole area is part of Portelet Common Nature Reserve which is a significant coastland heathland that is home to a rich variety of butterflies. The site was donated by Mrs H Dixon in memory of her father Jurat G de Gruchy.
