La Mare au Seigneur
St Ouen, supported purchase 1975
La Mare au Seigneur (St Ouens Pond) is the largest area of natural open fresh water in Jersey and is first recorded in 1309, when it was used to stock fish for the Seigneur of St Ouen. The Trust acquired the pond in 1975 and it is central to the Trusts Nature Reserve of just over 280 vergees. The reserve contains a rich mixture of wetland habitats including open water, reed-bed, fen, wet meadows, dune grasslands and scrub land. This varied habitat forms a unique ecosystem which supports a diversity of flora and fauna.
